Spotify’s New Video Upload Feature Gives Independent Artists Another Way to Grow Their Audience
Independent artists already spend countless hours creating content around every release, from music videos, to live sessions and acoustic performances. Now. Spotify is making it easier for their content to work harder.
The platform has launched a beta that allows eligible artists to upload full-length videos directly through Spotify for Artists. While labels and distributors have previously handled video delivery, this update gives artists another way to get their visuals in front of fans without leaving the platform where they’re already streaming music.
More importantly, Spotify says those videos can lead to more listening, more engagement, and another opportunity to generate royalties.
Why Videos Matter More Than Ever
According to Spotify, fans who watch a full-length video don’t just stop there.
On average, listeners stream that song 64% more over the following three weeks after watching a video. They’re also 1.4 times more likely to save it, share it, or add it to a playlist, while streaming 57% more of the artist’s catalog during the same period.
For independent artists, that’s an important reminder that video isn’t just promotional content anymore. It’s becoming part of the listening experience.
Make Every Piece of Content Count
At launch, artists in the beta can upload:
- Official music videos
- Live performances
- Acoustic performances
- Studio sessions
- Cover performances
Many independent artists are already creating this type of content for YouTube, Instagram, or TikTok. Now, those same videos can help engage listeners directly from Spotify, where fans are already discovering and streaming your music.
Spotify also says full-length videos are royalty-bearing, creating another opportunity to earn from content you’re already producing.
What This Means for Too Lost Artists
As an independent artist, every release should work across all platforms. A music video isn’t just something to post on release day; it can continue driving engagement long after your song goes live.
Whether you’re filming a stripped back acoustic session, capturing a live performance, or investing in an official music video, this new feature gives artists another way to keep fans engaged within Spotify’s ecosystem.
As video continues to play a bigger role in music discovery, independent artists who think beyond audio and build a complete visual experience will be better positioned to grow their audience and keep listeners coming back.
