Artist Spotlight: ROLF
Growing up in a bicultural environment, in an American and Mexican household, ROLF was immersed in both the rich traditions of music, such as Mariachi, Norteño, and Ranchera, as well as the modern sounds of urban genres from SoCal.
To him, his Hispanic culture is a constant source of inspiration. The values his family passed down to him — love, resilience, and identity — are what inspire his lyrics. ROLF's music comes from the heart and talks about his experiences of navigating two identities, his heritage, and the personal and social issues he goes through.
One of his main goals as an artist is to share his culture and empower young artists to express and share their voices with the world. “The world needs to hear our stories, our voices, and the diverse perspectives that come from being part of the Hispanic community.” said ROLF
ROLF prides on being authentic, and believes that is key to reaching success as an artist.
As an independent artist, it’s easy to get caught up in trends or expectations, but he believes the real power comes from creating something that speaks to who you are and what you believe in.
“Don’t be afraid to mix influences, challenge the norm, and push boundaries. Our music can represent more than just sounds. It can be a tool for cultural pride, connection, and change.”
His latest release nos mataste is a song that came to life after he lost a romantic partner to infidelity and temptation. The verses of this song talk about acceptance, but the chorus comes around to the feeling of wishing things were still the same in a forgiving way, showing the complexity of our feelings.
