Artist Spotlight

Growing up in Altadena, California, okay coleman! was surrounded by music long before he began making music himself. Raised in a home filled with jazz records, instruments, and creativity, he credits his father, family, and church for nurturing his passion from an early age. Just as important was the close-knit community of Altadena, where collaboration, resource sharing, and creativity are woven into everyday life.

That foundation shines through in his music today. Blending hip hop, soul and R&B with a deep appreciation for jazz, okay coleman! Describes his sound as “jazz’s cool grandson”, a style that effortlessly bridges genres while remaining rooted in thoughtful songwriting and rich musicianship. Influenced by artists like Kendrick Lamar, Miles Davis, Flying Lotus, Pharrell, and André 3000, he creates music that feels both timeless and distinctly modern.

One of his proudest accomplishments is his debut full-length project, “001”, an ambitious concept album that explores themes of love, spirituality, lust, and loss through the metaphorical world of an elevator. Created alongside producer and childhood friend Angelo LeRoi, the project reflects years of artistic growth, and a willingness to take creative risks, resulting in a body of work he hopes will outlive him.

For okay coleman!, the most rewarding part of being an artist is the moment inspiration strikes, the instant when an idea arrives fully formed and he knows exactly where to take it. While balancing creativity with everyday life has been one of his biggest challenges, he encourages fellow artists to lean on their comments, ask for help, and never isolate themselves.

With new visuals from “001” and live performances on the horizon, okay coleman! continues to build a career rooted in authenticity, collaboration, and the community that shaped him.
