Artist Spotlight

Igwe Aka is a Nigerian-born, Sacramento-based artist, who brings a unique and exciting sound to the alternative hip-hop scene. He was first introduced to rap by his older brothers, but it wasn’t until his family moved to the U.S. that he pursued a music career. His mother sacrificed a lot to move his family to the U.S., which has inspired Igwe Aka to never give up on his dreams as an artist. His immigration experience plays a major role in his everyday life and music.

Igwe Aka’s music cannot be placed in a single box; he is constantly breaking barriers and blending genres in a way that flows perfectly. His lyrics can be emotional; often opening up about his upbringing and his struggles as an immigrant. Despite the depth of his lyrics, every track has a contagious melody and an upbeat vibe.

His ability to keep listeners engaged sets Igwe Aka’s music apart. Even if a song is on the more mellow side of the spectrum, he always experiments with various elements to keep you on your toes.

Igwe Aka recently dropped his album, “BEFORE THE REIGN.” He wrote most of the album during his recent visit to his family in Nigeria. He describes the 7-track album as a “poetry project” of self-expression, each song providing a better understanding of what makes him the person he is today.

Igwe Aka just released a new single, “NELLY FT LIL DURK.” The song has a cool vibe and a catchy chorus that makes you want to hit replay. Listen to “NELLY FT LIL DURK” https://too.fm/r8y4l17
