Artist Spotlight: Hoot
Meet Hoot, a singer-songwriter whose sound feels as organic as the forests he grew up in. Raised in the small town of Maple Valley, WA, Hoot’s earliest memories are rooted in nature long days spent outside rain or shine, and quiet nights spent at the piano or with a guitar his dad first taught him to play at eight years old. “Something about the Northwest just pulls songs out of you,” he says. “It’s easy to tap into that deeper part of yourself when it’s gloomy outside.”
Those early years shaped both his artistry and his outlook. After performing in church through middle and high school, music became not just a passion but a calling. Now, after a decade of releasing music under another name, Hoot has stepped into a new chapter, one defined by freedom, honesty, and rediscovery. “I held onto the past for too long,” he reflects. “Starting this new project meant letting go and finding a way to continue on at all costs.”
Hoot’s music is hard to pin down “It’s all just a feeling,” he says. “Sometimes this, sometimes that. Whatever falls out.” What anchors it is emotion, the kind that invites listeners to feel deeply without overthinking.
When asked about his favorite part of being an artist, his answer is simple: “The moment a song writes itself.”
Recent milestones include song placements on Love Is Blind and The Ultimatum, but what he’s most proud of is the leap itself reclaiming his creative identity. With an album and live shows on the horizon for next year, Hoot is proving to his younger self the one who first believed in him that he was right all along.
His advice for newcomers? “Sing one word at a time.”
