Artist Spotlight: Big Blind

Artist Spotlight

Big Blind is the rare kind of duo whose story feels as inseparable as their voices. Lauren, raised in Louisville, Kentucky, grew up surrounded by the city’s quietly electric underground music scene an unlikely but formative home base where she first fell in love with indie rock. Arly, on the other hand, came up in Los Angeles, steeped in the mythology of film and music that permeates the city. Despite their different landscapes, both felt the familiar pull to leave home and chase something bigger. That pull led them to New York City, where their paths crossed in college and where the earliest threads of Big Blind began to take shape.

Both artists were drawn to music long before they ever met singing in talent shows, acting in school plays, and eventually performing in bands throughout college. But it wasn’t until they were studying music side-by-side that the spark of collaboration ignited. Suddenly, the dream of being in a band didn’t just feel possible it felt inevitable. They bonded first over the female voices that shaped them: Alvvays, Mazzy Star, TV Girl, The Sundays, Slow Pulp, Fontaines D.C., Sky Ferreira, Ethel Cain, and the many other women-led acts who’ve carved space in indie rock. That shared reverence became the foundation of their creative language.

Big Blind describes their sound as the soundtrack to your life songs that weave themselves into your memories the way music has always woven into theirs. Arly and Lauren often sing so closely, so intuitively, that their voices become almost indistinguishable, merging into a single narrative thread. It mirrors how they create: two artists telling one story, hoping listeners find their own reflected inside it. Their work stretches beyond the music itself, too. They’re creators in every sense, drawn equally to the writing, the world-building, and the visual identity of their project. For them, each song is a place one they design with intention, emotion, and a deep desire to make someone, somewhere, feel seen.

Their journey hasn’t been without its challenges. For years, the two lived across the country from one another Lauren in New York, Arly in LA juggling time zones and long-distance collaboration while trying to remain creatively connected. Through that, they learned to let the process be fluid. Their best moments didn’t come from scheduled sessions but from late-night calls, sparked by even the smallest idea. It’s the advice they’d pass on to any emerging artist: don’t force the work. Let the music come when it wants to.

Recently, Big Blind has hit a stride. Their latest singles have resonated deeply, with “Rugby” in particular drawing messages from listeners moved by the song’s emotional weight something the duo considers one of their proudest milestones. Ahead lies a busy horizon: a performance at Union Pool on December 3, the release of their next single “The Kicker,” and a steady stream of new music they’re eager to share. But more than anything, they’re excited to be doing it together and grateful that people are listening.
