Artist Spotlight: ASHER YELO
English-Nigerian singer, songwriter, and producer Asher Yelo continues to prove that true artistry comes from depth, honesty, and imagination.
Born in Brighton and raised around the world, Asher first discovered his love for creating through LEGO before finding GarageBand at age 11.
As he shared in his VoyageLA interview, “As an artist, producer, and writer who discovered music through LEGO (yes, LEGO), my view of music creation, world building, and the visualization of sound is quite unique. When I was 11 years old, I was convinced I would be a Master Builder at LEGO HQ, until I came across my Mum’s laptop and went on GarageBand for the first time. Dragging in the sounds from the loop bank felt the same as a LEGO brick in the sense that you could build a song.”
That sense of curiosity and craftsmanship has guided Asher’s career ever since. His sound is rooted in R&B and pop, and feels cinematic yet deeply personal, always built on emotion and storytelling.
Since his debut single Go Backwards (featured on Oprah Winfrey’s Queen Sugar), Asher has collaborated with Rodney Jerkins (Darkchild) on The Culture Tape Vol. 1, created an official remix for Disney/Pixar’s Ratatouille, and even earned praise from Quincy Jones. Every milestone reflects his passion for blending creativity with authenticity.
His newest release, “Lose It,” out now, is a Pop/R&B ballad about falling for someone in the most incredible way and the uncertainty that follows. Asher describes it as “a powerful, honest story about where my heart and head were at.” The track captures that universal mix of vulnerability and longing that a lot of people can relate to.
With more collaborations and releases on the way, Asher Yelo stands out as an independent artist that is building worlds through sound. Proving that when passion meets purpose and freedom to create, the result is timeless.
